Briefing Paper on the Role of the European Dietitian in Public Health



Public health dietitians may help reduce the number of premature deaths and significantly reduce the burden of preventable diet-related non communicable diseases (NCDs), overweight and all other forms of malnutrition which are strongly influenced by social determinants of health. There is a growing realization that the role of the dietitian in health promotion extends far beyond attention to health behaviors when the wider socioeconomic determinants of health are taken into account. It is from this expanded perspective that a Public Health or Community Dietitian can most effectively contribute to wider policy development.
