This week is Sugar Awareness Week 2018, which is an opportunity to raise awareness surrounding the negative role sugar can play in the health and wellbeing of the world’s population.
To tie in with this, the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN), have published a new advice guide on sugar intake in infants, children and adolescents. The guidelines are designed to inform parents on how to understand sugar intake in their child’s diet and help combat the cause of obesity. If no changes are made, over 80 million children under five risk suffering from obesity by 2025 worldwide.
This short, visual and easy to use advice guide explains what sugar is, what the current recommendations for sugar intake are, as well as the problems of overconsumption that currently exist.
