the JPI HDHL Policy Evaluation Network (https://www.jpi-pen.eu/) on evaluation and prioritization of policies to improve food environments in Europe has published their results in the EU Food-EPI report: https://www.jpi-pen.eu/images/reports/Food-EPI_EU_FINAL_20210305.pdf
EU Food-EPI research
In the initial phase of the research, they made an inventory of EU-level policies with an impact on the food environments in EU Member States. Governmental officials at the EU have verified this overview on completeness and accuracy. This policy overview has been published last year in a so-called ‘evidence document’.
In the next steps of the research, they asked independent health and nutrition experts to assess the EU-level policies by using an international standardized research tool: the Healthy Food Environment Policy Index (Food-EPI). Based on the ‘evidence document’, experts have assessed the strength of EU-level policies on a scale from 1 (very weak) to 5 (very strong). In addition, experts formulated and prioritized policy and infrastructure support actions to create healthy food environments in the EU, taking into account the importance, achievability and equity impact of these actions.
