Online courses

The Hydration for Health Academy by Danone Nutricia Research, in collaboration with hydration experts in academia, has developed a series of online courses on hydration.

Course 1: Hydration Basics

The course includes the following modules:

  • 'Water Metabolism', presenting information on dehydration and fluid balance homeostasis.
  • 'Water Physiology of Water Homeostasis', presenting the role of water in the human body, the renal action of Arginine Vasopressin (AVP) and the optimal limits of hydration and fluid intake.
  • 'Hydration Assessment', presenting information on assessing hydration using changes in body weight, biomarkers and urine colour.
  • 'Pathophysiology of Hydration Water Homeostasis', presenting the hydration status of low-drinkers and the role of AVP in renal water saving.

Course 2: Water and Fluid Intake

The course includes the following modules:

  • An Introductory session on water intake and fluids.
  • 'Dietary Assessment Tools', presenting the methods commonly used in practice to assess and analyse fluid intake.
  • The 'Liq.In7 cross-sectional studies', presenting their methodology and key findings.
  • 'How to Create a Hydrogenic Environment', presenting information and practical advice to educate individuals and help them increase their water intake.

Course 3: Hydration for dietitians by EFAD

The course includes the following modules:

  • An Introductory session about EFAD's role
  • 'The role of Dietitians in hydration education' including lectures on 'Translating hydration research for dietitians practice', 'Assessing hydration during dietitian's daily practice' and 'Hydration for elderly'.
  • Practical activities on barriers and facilitators for assessing adequate fluid intake, lead by example and further advice on how to create a water-friendly environment.
