EFAD responding to public consultation to revise Food Information to Consumers

As part of its Farm to Fork Strategy and Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, the Commission is launching a public consultation on the revision of the Food Information to Consumers legislation.
The aim is to overhaul the EU’s legislation and to submit, by the end of 2022, a legislative proposal to the European Parliament and the Member States.

The four areas under review are front of pack nutrition labelling/nutrient profiling, origin labelling, date marking and alcoholic beverage labelling.

The public consultation is open until 7 March.

EFAD is involved in consultations on this subject. The European Commission has asked the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) to submit a scientific opinion paper on the development of harmonized mandatory front-of-pack nutrition labelling and the settings of nutrient profiles for restricting nutrition and health claims on foods. EFAD (via our specialist workgroup ESDN for Public Health) has responded to EFSA’s draft scientific paper.

Check out our 2018 policy paper on nutrient profiling.

EFAD’s ESDN for Public Health is currently working on a paper on the contribution of nutrient profile models to the promotion of healthy eating environments.
