The Special Olympics World Games, held in Berlin from June 17th to 25th, 2023, brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds. Athletes representing 190 countries showcased their exceptional talents and sportsmanship across 26 different sports.

In addition to the athletes’ outstanding performances, the event was supported by a dedicated team of dietitians and dietetic students, including members of EFAD and ENDietS. Their involvement played a crucial role in ensuring the well-being and optimal nutrition of the Special Olympics athletes.

As part of the Special Olympics Healthy Athletes® program, these passionate dietitians and students offered valuable nutritional assessments and education. This initiative provided free health screenings and educational resources in a welcoming and enjoyable environment. By promoting healthy habits and personalized nutritional guidance, they empowered the athletes to reach their full potential and enhance their overall health and performance.

The collaboration between dietitians, dietetic students, and Special Olympics athletes exemplifies the power of inclusivity and the positive impact of comprehensive care. It demonstrates the commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities in their pursuit of athletic excellence and overall well-being.

In EFAD we applaud the efforts of all those involved in providing essential nutritional support during the Special Olympics World Games. Their dedication and expertise contributed to the success of this extraordinary event and helped foster a sense of inclusivity, empowerment, and camaraderie among participants.
