Topic 1: Insulin pumps and Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs)

Nowadays, the new technologies play a crucial role in the management of diabetes. Insulin pumps are now commonly used and can ensure good glucose control. The nutritional education on the use of these devices is important in order to succeed a better glycaemic control and the specialized dietitian play an imprortant role in the care team of diabetes.

Speaker: Charilaos Dimosthenopoulos

Charilaos Dimosthenopoulos is a Clinical Dietitian-Biologist and holds an MSc in Human Nutrition with specialisation in Clinical Nutrition. He is currently pursuing his PhD in dietary plan for T1DM patients and the use of CGMs at the Kapodistrian University of Athens. He is working as a chief dietitian in Laiko General Hospital of Athens, he is a member of Greek Diabetes Association, member of the Committee of Diabetes and Nutrition Study Group (DNSG) and Lead of EFAD’s ESDN for Diabetes.

Topic 2: Apps

There is a constant growth of smartphone ownership and usage of mHealth applications. As a result, opportunities for improved dietary management and diabetes control have arisen. Although there are loads of “Nutrition and diet” apps, most of them rely on manual procedures, which require manual input of food names and portion sizes by the user. Recent advances in technology have enabled the implementation of apps with novel approaches for automatic nutrient estimations based on food image or video analysis.

Maria Vasiloglou is a Dietitian-Nutrition and holds an MSc in Human Nutrition with specialization in Clinical Nutrition. She is currently pursuing her PhD in ιnnovative technologies for dietary monitoring and assessment at the University of Bern. She is a member of EFAD’s ESDN for Diabetes.
