Further information

This EFAD-led project assessed the needs of European dietitians regarding Household Food Insecurity (HFI) and developed a dedicated online Education Hub to support their professional practice.

The project was completed in two main stages:

  1. Stage 1: Mixed-Methods Research
  2. An online survey (WP1) and follow-up focus groups (WP2) were conducted to explore dietitians’ knowledge, beliefs, and practices related to HFI. The study identified key barriers and enablers to screening and referral, using the COM-B behavioural framework.
  3. Stage 2: Education Hub Development
  4. Based on study findings, EFAD curated evidence-based resources (WP3) and launched an Education Hub within its Learning Library. A live online event (WP4) introduced the Hub and provided interactive learning opportunities with subject matter experts.
  5. This initiative strengthened the capacity of European dietitians to recognize and respond to food insecurity in diverse practice settings.
