Quick overview

EFAD is joining the call for volunteers to be involved in extraction of data from published literature in the second stage of the database construction.

EFAD is supporting the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in promoting best practices in protein quality assessment.

Protein digestibility is a key element of protein quality but remains a complex and data-intensive activity. While numerous reports have been published, a comprehensive database of protein digestibility is still lacking.

FAO, in collaboration with IAEA, is now leading the construction of a global database on ileal digestibility of protein and amino acids in foods consumed by humans. This database compiles data identified through systematic reviews of the scientific literature.

👉 Volunteer opportunity

FAO and IAEA are seeking volunteers to support the second stage of the database construction, specifically the extraction and compilation of data from published literature.

  • Commitment: ~50 hours of data extraction and compilation (following training)

  • Training provided: in vivo measurement of amino acid digestibility across experimental models, plus key principles of data extraction

  • Recognition: Volunteers will be included in the official database documentation and will receive a certificate of contribution issued by FAO

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a project with a significant impact on nutrition science worldwide.
