On World Health Day 2026, the European Federation of the Associations of Dietitians (EFAD) launches the EFAD Budapest Resolution Extension: Dietitians at the Forefront of Change, extending the 2022 Budapest Resolution on the human right to safe and appropriate nutritional care.
EFAD, as the unified voice of European dietitians, reaffirms its unwavering commitment to improving nutritional health, promoting sustainable diets, and reducing health inequalities across Europe.
EFAD recognises that all human beings have the fundamental right to adequate food and to be free from hunger.
A Clear Position
EFAD emphasises the vital role dietitians play in shaping a sustainable future, ensuring health equity and advocating for resilient, sustainable food systems.
EFAD strongly condemns the use of food as a tool of oppression.
The deliberate denial of access to food, water, and medication, causing starvation, dehydration, disease, and death, represents a violation of human rights and inflicts lasting trauma on entire communities.
Why this Matters

- Food is a human right
Access to water and nutritionally adequate food is essential for health, dignity, and survival.

- Dietitians are agents of change
Through education, advocacy, and practice, dietitians contribute to building equitable and sustainable food systems and deliver expert care to support vulnerable populations.
A Call to Action
EFAD calls all stakeholders, including governments, international bodies, and humanitarian organisations, to:
- Uphold and enforce the right to food and water in all contexts
- Support and protect dietitians in their mission to promote health, sustainable food systems, and equity
