European Obesity Day
Five MEPs from all major parties have come together to put forward European Parliament written declaration 2010/0034. If half of MEPs sign, it will be sent by the President of the Parliament to all EU governments and parliaments.
Dear EOD supporter,
I hope this email finds you well. We want to let you know about an opportunity to support overweight and obese patients. As you know, five MEPs from all major parties have come together to put forward European Parliament written declaration 2010/0034. If half of MEPs sign, it will be sent by the President of the Parliament to all EU governments and parliaments.
Can you or one of your colleagues spare 15 minutes next week to send some faxes for us? |
The declaration (
see attached and click here for other languages) calls on EU Member States and the EU to take meaningful steps not just to prevent overweight/obesity, but to help the ≥40% of the EU population who already suffer from it. Nearly 100 MEPs already support us. We need around 250 more signatures to have the declaration adopted by the Parliament - and we don’t have long!
MEPs get thousands of emails a day. By sending them a short fax to key MEPs (prepared by us) asking them to sign you can help. Next week MEPs will be in their offices in Strasbourg, waiting for your fax.
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
· The fax template is available in English, French, German, Spanish (see attached). I’m sorry we couldn’t afford to have this translated in all your languages. Almost all MEPs speak English.
· Add your details (on your PC) including your name, organisation, position, contact details – and organisation’s stamp if you have it.
o Print the fax and send to the MEPs in the Excel spreadsheet attached, starting from the top of the list. Fax numbers are included.
o If you wish to write a short note by hand, that is very much appreciated by MEPs.
· Print the fax and send to your national MEPs during the course of next week, as MEPs and their assistants will be in Strasbourg for the plenary session.
o The best days to send would be Tuesday 6 July, Wednesday 7 July, Thursday 8 July as they are not travelling and will receive your fax directly.
o This will be a good opportunity for you to get in touch with them and also to profile your organisation.
· Finally, if you still have time, we would really appreciate your letting us know by email who you contact, to facilitate follow up and coordination.
Sending faxes to any of these people will be greatly appreciated. However, if you could send faxes to10 MEPs, that would be fantastic.
Thank you for very much for all your support. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.
Best wishes,
Ylva Reisnert
